A place to get well and stay well
A key to the Number 16 experience is providing an environment where “people who normally would not mix” can form a community and fully concentrate on working through the 12 Steps on their way to recovery.
Our facilities are designed to provide a safe, secure and structured environment where people can live their lives, not hide from their problems. This isn’t a “geographical cure.” We realize that people need to be able to live in the real world and our facilities allow opportunities to interact with family, alumni and other members of the community throughout the process, reducing the need for “reintroduction”.
Sixteen Lafayette Street in Wakefield MA is where we started this experiment in 2007 and it is also where the name for Number 16 came from. Since then, we have acquired and renovated a property on Bennett street. This larger property allowed us to relocate our admistrative offices and provided ample space for community events and meetings.
Both the Bennett and Lafayette Street facilities are fully alarmed with a central fire system that is tied directly to the fire department. We are fully permitted by the town and necessary departments.

Bennett Street
Bennett Street is a 7,000 square foot home that sits on a acre of land. The residence at Bennett Street has a long and rich tradition in Wakefield. This Italianate style structure was built in 1875 it was purchased by prominent industrialist Elizabeth Boit in the 1880′s. Ms Boit turned the home into a residence for retired women. The Boit Home (as it was called) remained in constant and unbroken ownership and operation for 120 years. We are the first buyers of the property since she purchased it over 100 years ago. We are privileged and honored to be caretakers of such a beautiful and important property.
We have done extensive work on the interior to bring the home back to its original beauty. We have also begun extensive renovations on the landscape of the property. Ongoing renovations will probably continue through 2013.
